The amount of copper used in a transformer depends on its capacity and design.
A transformer with larger capacity contains more copper in their windings to carry higher current efficiently.
On the other hand, the copper content is also related to the transformer’s performance — high-quality, high-performance copper transformers usually have a higher copper content.
A pole mounted transformer is installed on a utility pole. It is used to step down higher voltage to lower voltage, so that homes and small businesses can use directly.
You can often see these transformers along streets or near residential areas.
By phase type, they are divided into single and three phase.
– What is single pole mounted transformer?
A single-phase pole mounted transformer handles only one AC phase. Its wiring contains primary side and secondary side. The size of the single phase pole mounted transformers is smaller than three phase types.
For single phase electrical equipment or low power applications, the single phase transformer might be the most suitable.

– What is three phase pole mounted transformer?
Unlike a single phase transformer, a three-phase pole mounted transformer supplies three-phase power. It has three high-voltage windings and three low-voltage windings.
The three-phase pole-mounted transformers are larger, heavier, and look more cumbersome than single-phase ones – after all, they are specifically designed to handle larger electrical loads.
Pad mounted transformers are placed on the ground and are used in conjunction with underground lines. They are high mounted on poles and are specifically designed for overhead lines. In small areas or rural regions, pole mounted ones are more convenient for installation.
Pole mounted substations are best for small to medium ratings. OMEK suggests ratings be below 500 kVA. This is based on our clients data base.
Most of them are oil-filled. The oil acts as both insulation and a coolant to dissipate heat. Some dry-type transformers use solid insulation instead of oil.
Based on our rich experience, we suggest typically 4–6 meters (13–20 feet) above ground. Since this height ensures safety from accidental contact. Besides, it also allows for proper clearance for vehicles and pedestrians.
The pole mounted transformers are filled with mineral or synthetic insulating oil. Some modern versions use solid insulation like epoxy resin.
