Key Features and Strengths
Applications

Medium and Large Industrial Manufacturing Plants
The moment when the industrial equipment is started, the current is extremely high. When several high-power motors start at the same time, the power reserve provided by OMEK 1600 kVA transformer ensures that the power grid remains stable so that other precision equipment won’t be affected.
Examples: Large injection molding machines, CNC machines, stamping equipment, and automated production lines.
Large Commercial Complexes and Office Buildings
1600 kVA transformers can be installed in the power distribution rooms of shopping malls and office buildings. They are in charge of supplying power to the building’s central air conditioning, high-speed elevators, lighting system, and ventilation systems in underground parking lots.
Commercial buildings have strict requirements for noise and fire safety, so people usually choose 1600kVA dry-type transformers. They can be compactly installed indoors and the capacity is enough to cover commercial power consumption across tens of thousands of square meters.

Data Centers and Internet Infrastructure
It is commonly used for modular power supply in data centers. They can provide power to hundreds of server racks and support the large cooling system.
Data centers usually operate 24/7. The 1600kVA rating is highly suitable for matching with UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) systems.
Centralized Residential Communities
In high-rise residential areas of densely populated cities, one transformer room is needed per several buildings.
A single 1600 kVA transformer can support the daily electricity consumption of 400-600 households. It can even hold peak loads during the summer air conditioning season.

New Energy and Public Infrastructure
With the popularity of electric vehicles, there are more and more centralized charging stations. A charging station with dozens of fast chargers must be equipped with a 1600kVA transformer to ensure stable operation. A 1600 kVA transformer can normally support 10 to 20 standard fast chargers.

A Power Supply Upgrade Project in Southeast Asia
1. Project Background
2. Solution
3. Results
- A first-tier city in Southeast Asia started a power supply upgrade. The target is a 500-meter key section in its CBD core area.
- It needs to supply power to surrounding high-power landscape street lamps, 30 electric vehicle charging piles, 12 outdoor advertising screens and emergency power for shops. The total calculated load is 1380 kVA.
- The area belongs to tropical monsoon climate. So it is very hot and humid in summer.
- The line loss rate of the original power supply system is about 11%. In addition, small-capacity box-type transformers were scattered and in conflict with the high-end landscape of the business district.

- This project used a 1600 kVA underground compact substation (load rate 86%) for centralized power supply.
- The system has a 1,600 kVA underground liquid-immersed (synthetic ester) transformer inside an IP68 waterproof vault, equipped with an automated smart thermal exhaust fan system that activates at 70℃ to avoid underground heat accumulation in advance. This prevents equipment overheating, capacity reduction and shortened service life, supported by Class H (180 ℃) high-temperature insulation to naturally withstand the tropical high-temperature environment in Southeast Asia.
- The unit adopts a prefabricated steel structure underground foundation with IP68 waterproof rating.
- It is equipped with an automatic induction drainage system and fully sealed high-voltage plugs.
- It can effectively deal with high groundwater levels and tropical rainstorms in the business district.
- What’s more, the ground-level distribution cabinet is designed as an advertising lightbox. It covers only 3.8 ㎡. This is 78% less than traditional box-type transformers.
- It provides 14 low-voltage outgoing circuits; heavy EV charging loads are deployed within 80 meters, while lighting and auxiliary loads extend up to 280 meters, greatly reducing line loss.
- This solution helps our partner save about 200,000 kWh of electricity per year. According to the local CBD commercial electricity price, the cost saving is about $40,000.
- The advertising lightboxes can be leased out. This brings about $30,000 income each year. The total investment payback period is only 6.3 years, much shorter than average.
- It has been operating for 2 years with zero safety accidents and zero heat-related capacity reduction.
- The integrated design of equipment and business district landscape improves the overall visual quality of the area.

Customer Reviews
Real feedback from real customers
It's not easy to find a transformer that handles desert heat and fine sand. We installed three 1600kVA hermetically sealed units for a commercial district in Windhoek. The sealing on the tank is excellent, and the delivery was fast.

Power quality used to be a headache for our machinery. Since we installed this 1600kVA distribution transformer, our voltage drop problems are gone. Plus, the technical documentation is very clear. This makes local inspection very easy.

As a factory owner, I was worried about buying from overseas. But this 1600kVA cast resin dry-type transformer is exactly the same as you described. It's much quieter than our old unit and the energy efficiency is better.

FAQ
Have any questions? We’re here to help you out.
For a three-phase transformer, we can calculate the full load current using this formula:
I=S÷(√3×U)
S = Transformer rating (kVA)
U = Rated line voltage (kV)
I = Full load current (A)
Taking a typical 10 kV / 0.4 kV 1600 kVA transformer as an example:
The current of high voltage side (10 kV): ≈ 92.38 A
The current of low voltage side (0.4 kV): ≈ 2309.4 A
Most of the time, epoxy resin transformer and cast resin transformer refer to the same type of dry-type transformer. Both use epoxy resin to encapsulate and insulate the windings.
“Cast resin” describes the casting manufacturing process.
“Epoxy resin” describes the insulation material.
So for a 1600 kVA dry-type transformer, these two terms are interchangeable in practice.
The price of 1600 kVA transformers depends on many factors. For example, the type, configuration, materials and specifications you need. For the latest price list, feel free to contact us.
To know the load capacity of a 1600 kVA transformer, you have to know the power factor of the load. A transformer is rated in kVA (apparent power), but the actual usable load is measured in kW (real power).
kW = kVA × Power Factor (PF)
For a 1600 kVA transformer:
Power Factor | Usable Load Capacity |
PF = 1.0 (purely resistive load) | 1600 kW |
PF = 0.9 (typical industrial load) | 1440 kW |
PF = 0.8 (motor-dominant systems) | 1280 kW |
A 1600 kVA oil-immersed transformer usually needs about 1,100 to 1,350 liters of insulating oil. The exact amount is related to the voltage level and cooling design. For more accurate information, please contact our expert team.
Prepare the site: Clean the unloading area first. Make sure the ground is stable and safe for a mobile crane to operate.
Check equipment: Prepare high-strength synthetic webbing slings (or certified wire ropes with shackles) and spreader bars. Ensure all personnel wear helmets, safety gloves, and steel-toe boots.
Fix the transformer: Attach slings to the lifting lugs of the transformer. Ensure they are tight, stable and not loose.
Lift slowly: Use a mobile crane to lift the transformer slowly, and move it gently to the planned position.
Place in position: Lower the transformer slowly onto the foundation. Make sure it is level and stable, then release the lifting tools.
Check the product: Check that the transformer is not damaged. Make sure the tank, cables and other parts are in good condition.
First, you need to calculate the full load current according to the transformer’s kVA and voltage. Then, pick a cable that can safely carry that current, taking into account ambient temperature and voltage drop. High-voltage cables are smaller, low-voltage cables are much bigger. At OMEK, you don’t need to worry about this. We will recommend the right cable sizes and terminal designs. Just contact us to get a free solution.
