Why is it “63 kVA”?
When you see the term “63 kVA transformer”, you might wonder, why is it 63 kVA, not 60 kVA, not 70 kVA? The reason is in the standardized capacity grading system. It follows international and China’s national standards. The number is graded by a fixed ratio, and 63 kVA is exactly the grade between 50 kVA and 80 kVA. All factories use this standard to make their products, no need to make any change to the components, which brings a lot of convenience.

FAQs
Have any questions? We’re here to help you out.
A 63 kVA transformer can handle a load up to its rated capacity of 63 kVA. To calculate the rated current, you need to know whether it is single-phase or three-phase, as well as the secondary voltage.
For a three-phase transformer with 400 V secondary voltage, the rated current is approximately 91 A.

The real power it can supply depends on the load power factor, With PF between 0.8 and 1.0, the real power ranges from 50 kW to 63 kW.
For a 63 kVA single-phase transformer with a 400 V secondary voltage, the rated current:
I=63×1000/400≈157.5A
With a load power factor of 0.8, the real power output is:
P=S×PF=63×0.8=50.4 kW
The size (dimensions) of a 63 kVA transformer can vary depending on several factors, including:
1. Types of Transformer (oil-immersed or dry-type)
Oil-immersed units are usually smaller because the oil improves cooling efficiency.
Dry-type units are generally larger due to air cooling and additional insulation.
2. Voltage Ratings (primary and secondary voltages)
For the same kVA rating, a higher voltage transformer usually requires more space for insulation and electrical separation.
3. Core Materials (CRGO, Amorphous Alloy, 3D Core, etc.)
Amorphous cores may require a slightly larger volume.
3D cores offer a more compact structure with reduced magnetic flux leakage
4. Cooling Methods (ONAN, ONAF, AN, AF, etc.)
Forced-air or forced-oil cooling systems add radiators, fans, or pumps, increasing the size.

The loss of a 63 kVA transformer generally refers to the energy dissipated during operation. These losses can be broadly categorized into core losses (also called no-load losses) and copper losses (also called load losses). The specific losses depend on factors such as the design, voltage rating, and efficiency of the transformer.
Single-Phase Transformer Rated Current Formula:

I = rated current (A)
kVA = transformer capacity
V = rated voltage (V)
Example: 63 kVA, 230 V single-phase system.
I=63×1000/230≈274 A
So in this case, it can handle about 274 A.
Three-Phase Transformer Rated Current Formula:

I = rated current (A)
kVA = transformer capacity
V_line = line-to-line voltage (V)
Example: 63 kVA, 400 V three-phase system.
I=63×1000/(√3×400)≈91 A
So the transformer can safely supply around 91 A per phase.
A 63 kVA transformer does not have a fixed power factor. Its power factor depends on the connected load. The connected load typically ranges from 0.8 to 1.0 in most applications.
Transformers are rated in kVA, which has nothing to do with power factor. The power factor is determined by the type of equipment connected to the transformer, not by the transformer itself.
Example:
– If the load power factor is 0.8, the real power (kW) = 63 × 0.8 = 50.4 kW.
– If the load power factor is 1.0, the real power (kW) = 63 kW.
