Wind Turbine Transformer | Built for Reliable Wind Power
Wind power energy is a valuable asset for achieving global sustainable development. At present, our exploration to the wind power, this huge renewable energy, is ongoing.
In this transformation of energy upgrading, advanced transformer technology plays an significant role. This is where the wind turbine transformer comes into play. It holds enormous capabilities:
✅ Provide reliable support for large capacity wind turbine;
✅ Help expand and increase the capacity of onshore and offshore wind power projects;
✅ Achieve stable grid connection between wind power and the public power grid

Our Wind Turbine Transformer Features
As we all know, the environment of wind power generation is harsh. That’s why our engineers are struggling to make our wind transformers more stable and reliable, as well as creating long-term value. Their features are as below:
✅ Design for converter harmonics
✅ Adopt ester insulating liquid for low-temperature environments
✅ C5-M anti-corrosion, IP55 / IP56 enclosures for marine use
✅ Capacity reduction design for high-altitude area
✅ Anti-vibration design: To cope with the continuously rotating rotor blades and the vibrating nacelle, the internal windings are clamped and reinforced, and the leads are shockproof and fixed
✅ Use top-mounted transformer technology: Install the transformer above the nacelle to significantly reduce line loss and construction costs
OMEK Power’s transformers for wind turbines are all in compliance with the IEC 60076-16 and IEEE C57 standards.

What do Our Transformers do in Wind Turbine?
OMEK Power’s wind energy transformer is responsible for transforming and upgrading the electricity generated by wind turbines.
As a step up transformer, it raises the low voltage generated by the wind turbine to a higher voltage.
It effectively reduces the power loss of the transmission line, improves transmission efficiency, and ensures stable power transmission to the terminal.
Wind Turbine Transformer Functions and Benefits
💠 The core effect is to boost voltage and reduce cable loss, and this affect the LCOE directly.
💠 A key link between power generation at the turbine and power collection at the wind farm.
💠 It provides electrical isolation and protects your entire set of assets, since it will prevent a single turbine failure from spreading to the entire wind farm collector system.
💠 Helps handle harmonics and support the power quality of the entire power grid. It also supports grid connection requirements, such as Low Voltage Ride Through (LVRT).

Our Commitment to You

OMEK Power is your reliable partner for renewable energy projects.
Don't Let Your Projects Delay
Bring your onshore or offshore wind project challenges to OMEK.
Partner with OMEK Power for smooth grid connection and lower LCOE!

Why choose Our Wind Turbine Generator (WTG) Transformer?
OMEK Power does not simply produce transformers per your drawings. We will conduct a systematic assessment, including harmonic evaluation, high-altitude capacity reduction calculation and layout plan, etc., and ultimately match your local grid code.
Our wind power transformer is designed in accordance with the IEC 60076-16 wind power specific standard. It features Dy/Dz wiring, harmonic carrying (K-factor), converter ripple, and common-mode voltage adaptation.
We design based on the specific local environment of your area, rather than one transformer being suitable for all working conditions. No matter onshore or offshore, high altitude or extremely cold areas, we will provide specialized design solutions.
We clearly define the delivery time with you and strictly follow the agreed delivery time and the established process for production. All time is traceable. And you are welcome to visit our factory for supervision. The risk of delay is almost zero.
Our Offering
Our wind power transformers can meet various international standards and specific country’s standards, such as IEEE/ANSI, IEC, DOE, CSA, AS, etc.
OMEK Power's Solution
Types of onshore wind, with unique environmental conditions.
OMEK provides customized onshore wind turbine transformer mix, including ONAF oil immersed and AF dry type transformers. You can also choose the ONAF pad‑mounted type, to be installed beside the wind turbine.

The offshore wind has high salt and humidity. Sea winds erosion and seawater splashing. The components of transformers are constantly exposed to a eroded environment. These are the challenges with offshore transformers.
OMEK selects corrosion-resistant alloy materials to make the offshore transformer. Use graphene zinc primer, an intermediate coat, and a polyurethane topcoat to create a protective barrier against corrosive elements.
Harmonics from the converter can cause additional heat in the transformer coils and core. If not properly managed, they can affect power quality and prevent the turbine from meeting grid connection requirements.
OMEK uses Dy / Dz wiring method on the secondary side for the transformer in wind turbine. We set a copper-foil electrostatic shield between the primary and secondary windings. Use a low-leakage-flux design to help keep stray losses below 8% of total losses.

Wind speed can affect voltage fluctuations greatly. If the voltage exceeds the fluctuation range, grid connection will be denied.
OMEK’s wind turbine transformers are designed with sufficient thermal margin. Moreover, they have a robust structure and high mechanical strength, so they are capable of withstanding such back-and-forth fluctuations and shocks.
Inside the enclosed cabin, the transformer in wind turbine does not dissipate heat smoothly.
Our air-cooled transformer adopts an independent ventilation system. We have verified through airflow simulation that there are no heat dissipation dead zones.

High-voltage equipment is installed inside the nacelle, posing risks such as discharge, leakage and fire.
For dry-type transformers, the high-voltage terminals adopt unshielded T-shaped sealing heads, and can reduce the risk of contaminated discharge. Configure arc light protection devices and connect the signals to the turbine’s main control system.

FAQs
Have any questions? We’re here to help you out.
Wind transformer is connected with wind turbine generator, while the solar transformer is connected with the photovoltaic inverter.
Wind transformers are affected largely and frequently by the wind force. Besides, shaking always exists. They need to bear more shock loads. However, no similar cases happen to solar transformers. For solar transformers, there’re no similar fluctuations nor mechanical vibration. Their load change pace is more gentle.
The wind turbine transformers can’t connect to the bulk power system directly. They are connected to the power grid per the following procedure. The main transformer is the one that is directly connected to the large power system.
Electric generator (690V / 575V) → Wind turbine step up transformer (ONAF/dry type) → Wind farms medium-voltage collector lines (33kV) → Main transformer of the step-up substation → Public power grid
A transformer does 4 things in a wind turbine: Boost voltage, electrical isolation, withstand harmonics, and convert electricity into electricity that the collector line can receive.
The low voltage generated by the generator of the wind turbine is sent to the low voltage winding of the wind turbine step up transformer. Based on electro-magnetic induction, the wind turbine step up transformer boost the voltage to medium voltages like 33kV etc.
Then the medium voltage electricity is sent to the collector cable of the wind farm, joining with electricity generated by the other wind turbines. The collected electricity is sent to the main transformer in the wind farm step up substation. Via voltage step up for the second time, the electricity is sent to the public power grid.
